Mrs. Vina M. Abrams has been named the new Chairperson of the Central Midlands Council of Governments (CMCOG) Board of Directors.
Mrs. Abrams is married to David E. Abrams and they are the proud parents of Donald E. Abrams.
She attended Benedict College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She completed further coursework at the University of South Carolina in Social Work.
She has worked at both the county and state level for thirty-six years. She retired from the SC Department of Social Services as a Program Coordinator.
In addition to her service to the CMCOG Board of Directors, she chairs the Cherokee Lakes Society, Inc., member of the BB&T Newberry Advisory Board; charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Society, Inc., Pi Beta Omega Chapter, member of BPL, The Cards, and True Shadows Bridge Clubs. She is a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Prosperity, SC where she is a Deaconess.
Her contributions to the community includes receiving the United Way of the Midlands Meritorious Award; Rural Outreach Volunteer of the Year Award for Newberry County from Sistercare; named Outstanding Female State Employee for Newberry County; and former member of the Newberry Family YMCA Board of Directors. Her philosophy of life is: “It is far better to give than to receive”.
