The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is a regional economic development planning process supported by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA). EDA guidelines for developing the CEDS require a summary background of the economic conditions of the region. The summary background includes a detailed inventory and analysis of community and economic development indicators. CMCOG updates this data on an annual basis. The 2022 summary background information will be incorporated into the 2022-2027 CEDS five-year update which will be presented to the board in December.
The mission of the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) is to lead the Federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness and preparing regions for growth and success in the global economy. EDA accomplishes this goal by making strategic investments that foster job creation and attract private investment with an emphasis on providing support in economically distressed areas. EDA investments are made through number of programs and funding opportunities ranging from public works and trade adjustment to planning and technical assistance.
