SOUTH CAROLINA SILVER HAIRED LEGISLATURE
The Central Midlands Caucus is coordinating membership selection to the South Carolina Silver Haired Legislature. The number of representatives for each area county will be as follows:
Fairfield County: 2
Lexington County: 9
Newberry County: 2
Richland County 10
Persons who are 60 years or older and a registered voter in the county in which they reside are eligible to serve as a candidate. Those interested in becoming a Silver Haired Legislator should contact the Central Midlands Area Agency on Aging at (803) 376-5390. Filing begins on January 8, 2018, and must be completed by February 9, 2018. There is a $20.00 filing fee. Silver Haired Legislature membership selection will be conducted throughout South Carolina prior to March 31, 2018. The model legislature was established in 1999 for bringing together the wisdom and experience of older South Carolinians as it develops recommendations for legislation to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and General Assembly. The group has successfully advocated for issues pertinent to senior citizens.
